Customs seized HK$2m smuggled gold


A 59-year-old male driver was arrested yesterday, suspected of smuggling gold. Previous NextHong Kong Customs yesterday seized four pieces of suspected smuggled gold weighing about 4 kilograms in total with an estimated market value of about $2 million at Man Kam To Control Point, arresting the 59-year-old male driver. Officers intercepted an oncoming lorry at Man Kam To Control Point for inspection yesterday evening and found the batch of suspected smuggled gold in the driving compartment of the lorry. Cheung added that from the start of this year up till today, Customs have uncovered eight suspected gold smuggling cases, seizing a total of 75 kilograms of gold, with an estimated market value of HK$36 million. The gold seized this year is eight times the total from last year’s.
