The cross-dressing comedian and charity fundraiser Eddie Izzard is to take his seat on Labour’s ruling national executive committee (NEC) immediately, following the resignation of Christine Shawcroft last night. Izzard — whose political credentials and ambitions with the Labour Party stretch back to the Cool Britannia era of Tony Blair — gains the place as a result of being the best-placed loser in January’s election for three NEC places.
