Cup Day: Breakthrough victories and trouble-free spectators

Cruz Bromac wins NZ Trotting Cup to give Blair Orange his first win in the race. With afternoon temperatures nudging 18 degrees Celsius and a just gentle breeze, racegoers were spared the hat-clutching and overheating concerns of many previous Cup Days. The event was a huge day for local trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen as they recorded their fourth cup win, and had three horses from their stable cross the line in this year's top four. Cup Day forms part of the newly rebranded Bloom festival, which also includes the Riccarton races, New Zealand Agricultural Show and other cultural and sporting events.
