Aditya has been arrested four times in the past few years and has 17 similar cases lodged against him at different police stations of the Bidhannagar commissionerate. An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said Aditya had promised Abhijit that he would hand over the flat to him in 2014. An officer of the commissionerate said Aditya had earlier cheated an IPS officer in a similar manner. A majority of the cases - around 17 - recorded against him were filed with Bidhannagar North police station last year. An officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said that at least 85 people from across the city had paid him money as advance for purchase of flats.
