As opposing players go, it’s impossible not to admire the resilience and professionalism of Jon Lester. Since breaking in with the Red Sox in 2006, Lester has never been one of those “wow factor” guys. Lester has certainly bucked the trend as a thirty-something, big money free agent who has actually paid off. The Mets put up their only real threat that inning thanks to Lester sandwiching the base hit with a hit batsman and a walk. The way things are going, that $25 million option for 2021 may wind up striking the Cubs as a bargain.
