The jury at the inquest into their deaths has concluded that they were not unlawfully killed, following 10 days of deliberation. The foreman of the jury at the inquest into the Croydon tram crash said the tram driver became disorientated and lost awareness, most likely due to a lack of sleep. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) found tram driver Alfred Dorris may have been in a “microsleep” as the tram derailed near Sandilands, south London. The jury foreman told the hearing: "The tram driver became disorientated, which caused loss of awareness in his surroundings, probably due to a lack of sleep. The victims’ families will now call on the Attorney General Michael Ellis QC to apply to the High Court to grant a new inquest.
