Crown says accused shooter left fingerprint during downtown Toronto restaurant killing

The Crown will use fingerprint evidence and surveillance footage to help prove Havard McKenzie was one of two men who fatally shot an unarmed stranger in a crowded downtown Toronto restaurant, a jury heard Wednesday. Mohammed and his friend went to use the washroom when they were accosted by three armed men, Crown attorney Liz Jackson told jurors. Mohammed was trying to help his friend but fell behind the front counter, where “he was shot by one of the men, shooter number one,” Jackson said. Jackson told jurors the images will help them “in reaching your decision about the identity of the second shooter,” because “it’s possible to see what shooter number two looks like, in terms of face, stature and movement. It’s not completely clear but it can assist you.”A Toronto police officer who knows McKenzie will identify him as the second shooter in the surveillance footage, she said.
