Lorraine Smith​ was jailed in August 2019 after pleading guilty to murdering 13-year-old Kalis Smith​. Lorraine Smith, however, was sentenced to 12 years’ jail with a minimum term of six, with Justice Francis Cooke​ deciding a life sentence would be unjust. But the Crown, who argued for a life sentence, has appealed that sentence.
