Cross River APC crisis deepens, factions suspend minister, others

Chukwudi Akasike and Mudiaga AffeThe crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State took a new twist on Friday as a factional acting Chairman, Mr. Etim John, assumed office in the party secretariat located along Barracks Road in Calabar. Subsequently, the Ayang-led group went ahead to endorse Etim John as the new acting chairman of the party in the state. However, a statement from the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Friday, faulted John’s emergence as the party chairman in the state, saying Ochala remained the acting chairman. The statement also noted that members involved in the appointment of a new acting chairman would be disciplined. However, the leader of the APC in the state and Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, was absent as he was said to be holding a rally in Ogoniland.
