Critique of conflict: Exhibition of works by German artist Otta Dix View(s):‘Otto Dix – Social Criticism & War (1920-1924)’ – a travelling exhibition was opened by German ambassador Dr. Felix Neumann, Professor Rohan Nethsinghe, Vice-Chancellor of the University for the Visual and Performing Arts and Stefan Winkler, Director of the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka at the J.D.A. Perera Gallery of the UVPA on Horton Place, Colombo 7 on Thursday. Otto Dix (1891-1969), renowned as one of Germany’s most pivotal artists in the time of the Weimar Republic, depicted its excesses and contradictions with an unflinchingly critical eye. Dix was not only an uncompromising chronicler of his time, he also often portrayed those who found themselves on the margins of society.
