The Crown has dropped break-and-enter charges against controversial political strategist Nick Kouvalis and a former political hopeful in exchange for their guilty pleas to a non-criminal trespassing offence. Colin MacLeod told the Star in December they were charged Sept. 26 after an alarm was triggered at a closed Kelseys restaurant in Burlington. Tory’s spokesman said in late December the mayor had no idea Kouvalis had faced criminal charges for months. The Star saw Kouvalis speaking with the mayor in his city hall office in mid-December. Kouvalis became a public figure as a strategist widely credited with helping Rob Ford get elected Toronto mayor in 2010.
