Cricket fans must stump up for two subscriptions

Cricket fans face a tough choice in coming years. Photo: NZ HeraldNews this morning that Spark has won the cricket rights leaves die-hard fans in the awkward position of needing two subscriptions to catch all the action. Spark announced this week that 186,000 subscribers had signed up for the Rugby World Cup. Spark is said to have paid $13 million for Rugby World Cup rights (the telco won't confirm or deny), with $1m defrayed via its partnership with TVNZ. It's unclear at this stage what the company has paid for the cricket rights, but they wouldn't have come cheap.
