Crews are working to extinguish a wildfire on West Redonda Island, which is one of the Discovery Islands that lies between central Vancouver Island and the B.C. Fire information officer Marg Drysdale says 20 firefighters and three helicopters are attending the 2.5-hectare fire in Teakerne Arm Provincial Park, a boat-access-only recreation site. Drysdale said the fire was first reported Saturday, Aug. 27 around noon local time by a boater. "Generally at this time there's all kinds of boat traffic," she said. She says the fire is on a peninsula and surrounded on three sides by water.
