Multiple Taranaki crews are working to extinguish a house fire on State Highway 3 in Eltham, following the efforts of neighbours with a garden hose. Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews made their way to the South Taranaki town’s High St around 3pm after multiple 111 calls about fire coming from the roof of a home. Catherine Groenestein/Stuff Central Fire Communications shift Manager Mike Wanoa said multiple Taranaki crews were responsing to the fire. They neighbour said they ran to the house with a garden hose to try to put the fire out, but brigades arrived shortly after.
