Fire crews have managed to extinguish multiple blazes in the Outram area today. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said they were called at 7.02am to a grass fire near Lee Stream-Outram Rd (SH87). Appliances from Outram and Middlemarch responded and there was some concern over the strong northwesterly winds predicted for today, she said. The fire was extinguished without any issues, but while at the scene fire crews noticed smoke near Lee School Rd and appliances from Wakari, Waihola and Outram were sent to extinguish the second fire. The Fenz spokeswoman said the fire, about 100m in length, was extinguished and fire crews had left the scene around lunchtime.
