Cozad man charged with two counts of felony child abuse; injuries 'may not be survivable'

A Cozad man is being charged with two counts of felony child abuse in connection to injuries sustained by an infant last week. Draven Haynes, 23, is charged with two counts of intentional child abuse with injury, both Class 2 felonies. According to a Dawson County Court affidavit, Cozad police responded to the report of an unresponsive two month old in Cozad. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital in Omaha for care, where hospital staff told authorities the child was in critical condition and the injuries “may not be survivable,” according to the affidavit. Children’s Hospital staff also told officers the child’s injuries could not have been caused by a fall off a bed.
