Trespassing and poaching from rural North Canterbury is on the rise, according to farmers who say they are sick of feeling unsafe in their own homes. The latest incident happened overnight Tuesday when a cattle beast was butchered in a paddock at Tuahiwi, near Kaiapoi. She said there had been several incidents over the years, including a stolen car abandoned in the same paddock. This week's cow poachers had known what to do, and had likely come in and killed the animal with a knife before gutting and decapitating it.
