More than 300 cases of the South Africa variant have been found in the UK so far. The Department of Health said in a statement: “Further targeted areas will have additional testing made available to control and suppress the potential spread of the Covid-19 variant first identified in South Africa. The numbers came as the World Health Organisation (WHO), Downing Street and British experts sought to reassure people about the safety of the Oxford University/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
