Covid-19 lockdown puts Westport flood repairs on hold

Westport local Mickey Ryan helped rescue residents from their homes in his Unimog during recent flooding in the Buller area. The whole of New Zealand was placed into lockdown from midnight on Tuesday after a Covid-19 case was identified in the community in Auckland. “It’s fair to say that the lockdown has some nuances in Westport for our displaced flood people. We have responded by reactivating our emergency operations centre because we think there’s going to be some unique challenges,” the mayor said. Supplied Buller mayor Jamie Cleine said lockdown would present challenges for some displaced Westport residents.
