Her family claimed that the local union parishad (UP) chairman had refused to let them bury her. The deceased, Mahmuda Begum Moushumi, was a ready-made garment (RMG) worker and died on her way home on May 21, family sources say. Later her body was handed over to her father, Goulam Mostafa, Tajhat police sources say. However, after reported attempts and request, the chairman of Burimari Union Parishad, Shah Newaj Nishat, reportedly refused to let her family bury her in their village, and threatened Mostafa. Aditmari police station OC Saiful Islam said: "On Sunday, we recovered the dead body in a sack from the Teesta River, and gave her a proper burial in a graveyard of Burimari union on Monday.
