Tourists in New Zealand whose visas were due to expire will be able to stay a little longer as the government announces a two-month extension. Where people are here on visitor visas which expire on or before March 31, the government will automatically extend their visas by two months, Minister of Immigration Kris Faafoi said on Friday. The extension does not apply to visitors on the special Covid-19 short term two-month visitor visa, which was introduced in September last year. “The government wants to make clear that people who are here on visitor visas are here as guests for a limited time,” Faafoi said. Visitors whose visas expire after March 31 – and who therefore aren't eligible for the two-month extension – will be able to apply for a further six-month visa before the end of June.
