Toilet paper was a high commodity on Tuesday evening on the eve of the country going into alert level 4. Panic buying, or announcement shopping, is still streaking through the supermarket aisles and cleaning out the grocery basics. Photos taken by Marie showed most meat, milk, salads, vegetables and toilet paper sold out, with what little remained being the more expensive brands. Nelson Facebook groups also highlighted the “utter chaos and shelves looking empty” after Tuesday’s lockdown announcement. At Fresh Choice Richmond, inwards good stock administrator Keri-Lee Wilford said although the eve of lockdown was “really really busy” all customers had been “obeying the rules”.
