The mayor of the Chatham Islands has urged residents to do the right thing and isolate if needed as a spike in Covid-19 cases follows the move into the orange setting. The Chatham Islands, one of the most remote inhabited places on Earth, had its first two cases of the virus confirmed on March 6. The Chatham Islands, 840 kilometres east of mainland New Zealand, has a population of about 600. Monique Ford/Stuff Chatham Islands mayor Monique Croon says most people who have caught Omicron have thankfully had a mild illness. Hotel Chatham owner Toni Croon said she closed the hotel on April 18.
