Covid-19: Hospo boss sounds alarm over fake vaccine passes

A hospitality business owner had told Stuff they saw a huge amount of fake passes on Saturday night. (Sample)A North Island bar owner said they turned away 50 people who tried to enter their premises using fake vaccine passes on Saturday night – and they fear it’s a scenario being repeated across New Zealand. The owner said the vaccine passes “look identical” to legitimate passes, but would have information that did not tally with other identification, or QR codes that were blurry and could not be scanned. “What’s the point of the vaccine pass in they’re not even checking it.”Stuff has approached police for comment. Reg Hennessy, Hennessy's Irish Bar owner and Hospitality New Zealand Rotorua branch president, told Stuff he had seen people trying to enter premises without vaccine passes, but had yet to encounter fake passes at his venue.
