An immunologist says the Government should urgently shorten the gap for booster shots, as the Omicron variant of Covid-19 could break through the country’s borders. Immunologist and Malaghan Institute director Graham Le Gros said the gap should be shortened by a month for people to get boosters – to five months instead of six. Le Gros said experience from overseas showed the need for booster shots as vital protection against Omicron. On Sunday, five new Omicron cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of the variant’s cases to 13. A bigger gap between vaccines ensured better protection against the virus, but Le Gros said five-months would be sufficient.
