Covid’s grip on Ireland: virus rises and falls


The south-east county has an incidence rate of 1,239 cases per 100,000 in the past 14 days. This is despite 98pc of its population over 12 availing of at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 96.6pc being fully vaccinated. Dublin, where just under 87pc are fully vaccinated, has an incidence rate of 740 per 100,000. Mayo and Sligo each have incidence rates of below 600 cases per 100,000 population in the past 14 days and both have 94pc of their population fully vaccinated. However, only Longford has an incidence rate of more than 1,000 per 100,000 population in the past 14 days.
