The Cairo Criminal Court upheld on Sunday the death sentence for radical preacher Wagdy Ghoneim in absentia. The sentence was affirmed after the ratification of the Grand Mufti. The death sentence also included other defendants involved in the same case. Ghoneim faced trial in other cases alongside former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, including incidents of violence outside the presidential palace on 5 December 2012. In March, Ghoneim was sentenced by a Cairo Misdemeanor Court to five years in prison on charges of incitement against Copts.
