Muralidhar Pai has set aside security proceedings initiated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya against Vishwa Hindu Parishad Mangaluru Division Secretary Sharan Pumpwell. Mr. Pumpwell had filed a criminal revision petition before the court questioning the summons issued by Mr. Hanumantharaya to him on November 8, 2017. Mr. Pumpwell contended that the order was issued to prevent him from doing protest on Tippu Jayanti. Allowing the petition, the Judge in his order dated January 30 said the November 8 order does not indicate any basis for presuming threat to peace and tranquillity by Mr. Pumpwell. There was no valid reason for the DCP to initiate proceedings under Sections 107, 116 (3) and 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the Judge said.
