Court orders final forfeiture of N9.2bn, $8.4m belonging to Patience Jonathan


Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of a Federal High Court in Lagos, on Monday, ordered the permanent forfeiture of the sums of N9.2bn and $8.4m recovered from wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience. Justice Olatoregun specifically ordered that the funds should be forfeited to the Federal Government. The.decision comes after an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) which said the funds were proceeds of crime. The Supreme Court had rejected her prayer to strike down the provisions of Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act, which EFCC relied on in filing the application. An EFCC operative, Musbahu Yahaha Abubakar, who depised to an affidavit before the court said Mrs Jonathan opened the Skye Bank account on February 7, 2013.
