(Bangkok Post file photo)The first batch of court marshals, primarily tasked with tracking down bail-jumpers and providing security at court houses, will start work on July 16, the Office of the Judiciary announced on Monday. The court marshals' primary tasks include providing security around court premises, recovering and defusing bombs, and handling information systems, he said. Mr Sarawut said court marshals are needed because the job of the police is to hunt down fugitives and enforce arrest warrants -- not capture bail-jumpers. The bill that formally established the unit of court marshals was passed by the National Legislative Assembly in February, and then proclaimed into law. Section 9 of the law exempts court marshals from laws that prohibit them from carrying firearms, so they can carry out their duties.
