THE Court of Appeals (CA) has once again denied former Health secretary Alfredo Bengzon’s bid to regain control of The Medical City board of directors. In a resolution, the CA junked Bengzon’s motion for reconsideration, which sought to reverse the appellate court’s June 2019 ruling, which rejected his petition for a preliminary injunction. The CA said that Bengzon and the other officers have no “vested right” to remain in their positions. During the special stockholders’ meeting, Bengzon’s nephew Jose Xavier “Eckie” Gonzales was elected chairman of the board and Dr. Eugenio Jose Ramos as CEO. The CA also dismissed Bengzon’s claim that shares issued to investors whom he had asked for cash infusions during his time as CEO were illegal and invalid.
