While launching plea bargaining, the DPP said it will cut down on the long trials including in corruption cases. Meanwhile, the defence asked the court to strike out redacted evidence for witnesses allegedly put under witness protection. The prosecution intends to adduce the said witnesses days before they appear in court to protect their identity. The court was told that the accused died and the defence produced a burial permit to confirm the same. The case will be mentioned on September 25 when they are expected to take hearing dates for the case.
