A Christchurch couple has admitted stealing more than $1.4 million from the woman’s widowed mother. The Crown alleged the offending started after the death of Robin Milligan, Shirley Milligan's husband. In total, $1,403,500 was withdrawn and transferred into the Quirkes' bank accounts. On November 4, 2016, Claire Quirke received $5000 in her bank account. The Crown said Claire Quirke also took steps to avoid detection of the dishonesty “albeit unsuccessful and relatively fleeting steps”.
