Fairymount native Michael Coyne celebrated his 107th birthday today Sunday, January 14th with a birthday lunch in Hester’s of Castlerea. To mark the occasion Michael recited a poem for the gathering of family and friends. Michael was still driving at 98, and still likes to catch up with the news with his weekly ready of the Roscommon Herald. President Michael D Higgins has been getting in touch with him every year since he turned 100. A staunch Fianna Fail supporter all his life, Michael still carries his party membership card and his driver’s licence (valid until 2018) in his wallet.
