Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for the entire country, with high winds and very heavy rain expected over the weekend. Storm Ciara is expected to produce very strong southwesterly winds with average speeds of 65-80km/h and gusts of up to 130km/h. It said high winds and high waves with high tide will result in overtopping along the promenade at Salthill.
