Countrywide protests over killing of lawyer Willie Kimani, client and driver

More than 30 local and international human rights groups and lawyers have taken to the streets to protest the killing of human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and a taxi driver, Joseph Muiruri. Protesters carried placards demanding "accountability for victims of police executions", and calling to "prosecute those responsible for death of Willie, Joseph and Josephat". "The shocking incidents and extrajudicial killings of Kimani should be cause for alarm over the state of human rights," they said. National Coordinator at Kenya’s National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Kamau Ngugi said a transparent process of investigating and prosecuting those responsible is needed to reassure Kenyans safety. The two and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri went missing after a court session at Mavoko law courts on June 23.
