A budget amendment to reallocate $290-million committed for a new Calgary Flames arena toward three city projects was defeated in a council vote Thursday. The motion, which failed in vote of 11-4 on Friday, required a supermajority of 10 votes to pass. Jeromy Farkas, who argued the July vote to ratify the arena deal with ownership of the Calgary Flames was “rushed.”“We’re four months down the road. Carra says if it was a matter of choosing one project, he would choose Green Line over the arena. Jyoti Gondek told her colleagues it’s wrong to equate funds allocated to the arena deal with ongoing budget debates taking place this week at city council.
