PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Council of Churches is calling on the authorities to increase protective surveillance of street children throughout the country to prevent them from being exploited. "We call on all authorities to further strengthen surveillance of street children throughout the country, who are victims of unscrupulous people who destroy the lives of innocent children," he said in a statement on Wednesday. Police arrested an Indian man and a Myanmar woman for allegedly exploiting children to sell flowers and to beg in the city. Following the Sunday arrests, police rescued 21 victims comprising eight adults and 13 children including a two-month-old baby. The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
