Council forced to put down 27 horses in yearTHIRTY-FOUR horses have been ‘put down’ by Cork City Council since the start of 2017, new figures have revealed. According to figures released by the council, 27 horses were euthanised last year and seven have met the same fate in the first couple of months of 2018. In 2017, four horses were released back to their owners, at a cost of €835 plus 23% VAT, and seven were rehomed. “Of the 27 horses euthanised last year, someone had to own them. It goes back to the tracing of horses and the proper licensing and management of horses,” he said.
