Council consenting processes causing frustration, designer says

A long-time architectural draughtsman says a new computer system has added time and money to resource consent applications to councils. Council consenting processes are wasting time and money, and making developers “frustrated and annoyed”, a long-time architectural draughtsman says. Clive Lewis, of Clive Lewis Design, spoke to the Nelson City Council about his concerns with changes to the consenting process – something which he said was a nationwide problem which was only just starting to become apparent in Nelson city but which had made Wellington “unbelievable”. It involved him coming into the council with his 1:50 pencil drawings and going through them in-person with consenting officers. He said once he made an application to Wellington City Council and was asked to provide all 178 pages of an instruction manual for installing Nuralite, a roof waterproofing material.
