Council buys Bunnings Warehouse to convert into district museum


The Bunnings Warehouse in Te Awamutu has been purchased by the Waipā District Council. The Bunnings store closed in July 2020 after the country emerged from the first set of Covid-19 alert levels. The Bunnings Warehouse site gave the council an opportunity to review the scope of the museum, its height provided more options for exhibitions for example. SUPPLIED A concept plan for the $40m version of Te Ara Wai Museum, designed pre-Covid. The council said it had no plans to buy the neighbouring Cambridge Bunnings store which also closed in 2020.
