Could nuclear power save South Africa from loadshedding?

In retrospect, would loadshedding in South Africa be less virulent today had another nuclear power plant or two been built? This plan spoke of new nuclear capacity by 2030 and extending the operating lifetime of Koeberg by 20 years. Meanwhile, in Germany, the systematic closure of nuclear plants is making way for renewable energy, specifically wind and solar. Last week, the lack of nuclear in South Africa’s energy mix saw even the Western Cape administration unable to protect Capetonians from the severity of stage 6 loadshedding. Join me at Enlit Africa on 16-18 May 2023 at the CTICC in Cape Town to discuss this and other trending power and energy topics.
