The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said it was still awaiting updates on the development of a new P12-million jail facility for Cotabato City to de-congest the current jail building. Police Station 1 is already full with more than 20 detainees while the cells in Police Station 2 and Police Station 3 are already packed with 12 detainees in each jail. Danilo Reyes, Cotabato City police director, said police stations here have only three lock-up cells, and these are the initial detention facilities where newly arrested persons are kept before they are committed to the jail on orders of the court.
