Costlier to replace a damaged or lost passport - Nation

KUALA LUMPUR: From Wednesday, Malaysians have to fork out between RM300 and RM1,200 to replace a damaged or missing passport. Among others, an individual who wants to replace a lost or damaged passport – valid for five years – for the first time will have to pay a fine of RM400. For a child under 12 years and students aged 21 and below and studying abroad, they will be fined RM300. For a second replacement, they will be fined RM700 and RM600 respectively while a third replacement will see a fine of RM1,200 and RM1,100. Last year, the Immigration Department had recommended that the government impose penalties for passport replacements as the number of individuals losing the document due to negligence was high.
