Coronation Street star Shayne Ward has confessed that he was 'scared' to take on the heartbreaking suicide storyline, after he left fans in tears with scenes that saw Aidan Connor take his own life. He said: 'Kate approached me before Christmas and said we've got this idea for Aidan, and instantly I was scared. 'I knew this was a decision I had to make: Could I do this storyline justice or do I carry on as Aidan and do a different story? In a heart-wrenching hour-long special on Wednesday night fans saw Aidan's father Johnny (played by Richard Hawley) discover his sons dead body in the bathroom off-screen, crying out in horror before slowly breaking the news to his family. Catherine said: 'We've both been inundated with messages saying ''I've been really close to this Thank You.''
