Scofflaw corporations owe taxpayers $72 million in unpaid fines, some dating back more than 20 years. One unnamed company and its owners defaulted in September 2016 on $575,000 in fines related to violating an industry regulation, the report said. Deadbeat residents and corporations owe a staggering $577 million in unpaid fines stemming from more than two million offences, says the report discussed at audit committee Friday. More than 10,000 individuals have 25 unpaid fines or more and are “not facing the consequences of their actions,” the report said. Another person also faces 38 offences, including speeding, and $125,000 worth of unpaid fines.
