A Whitehall source said the Government was "in advanced discussions" to procure doses of the Moderna vaccine. Moderna reached a $1.5billion deal with the US government for 100 million doses of their vaccine in August. Dr Stephen Hoge, president of Moderna, said he "grinned ear to ear" when learning about the efficacy of the US firm's coronavirus vaccine. "The news from Moderna appears to be good and represents another significant step towards finding an effective Covid-19 vaccine," a government spokesperson said. "To date, the UK government has secured early access to 350 million vaccines doses through agreements with six separate vaccine developers.
