Covid-19 cases in Southern California's Los Angeles County have spiked to more than 10,000 cases a week - an outbreak not seen since March - as the Delta variant continues to pose a threat. The mandate was reinstated on Sunday after a 700% increase in cases due to the Delta variant. They said their recommendation was made 'out of an abundance of caution' as an 'added layer of protection for unvaccinated residents.' About 53% of LA County residents are fully vaccinated while 60% have received at least one jab, the LA Times reported. 'The highly infectious Delta variant is now the predominant strain in Contra Costa County,' said county health officer Dr. Chris Farnitano.
