It is hoped that binning the face-to-face meetings will protect claimants from potentially catching the virus. So far, 35 people have died after testing positive for the virus in the UK, with 1,391 cases recorded. Claimants with face-to-face appointments booked will be contacted to discuss alternative arrangements, which could include telephone or paper-based assessments. This is the latest change in the welfare system announced in the fight against the coronavirus.
