Coronavirus: Public sector CEOs react to 20 per cent pay cut

Public chief executives around the country have responded to the prime minister announcing she will take a 20 per cent pay cut as a show of leadership. Jacinda Ardern announced the pay cut at her daily Covid-19 press conference on Wednesday. The prime minister and director-general of health Dr. Ashley Bloomfield will both take a 20 per cent pay cut, along with all ministers and public service chief executives. But Hamilton City Council chief executive Richard Briggs said he would not be cutting his salary by 20 per cent. "Rather than taking a pay cut, and getting lost in the organisation, I'm putting the money into a staff hardship fund."
